The Greene County Fair Association netted almost $80,000 in the annual dinner and auction held Sept. 5 at Clover Hall. The money will go to the Fair Foundation to build a new cattle barn to replace two decades-old barns.
More than 100 persons attended the catered dinner and stayed for the bidding. According to Fair Association secretary Doug Hawn, the bidding was aggressive on seed, chemicals and services for the 2018 production year. The auction raised about $79,000, with another $1,000 or so coming in through the auction of pies, services such as car detailing, other donated items and cash donations.
Dunlop Auction provided professional auctioneering for the evening.
Hawn said the site for the new barn is still being leveled. Delivery of the new building is expected next week.
Hawn thanked all those who donated to and participated in the auction.
